五箇山 合掌造り 世界遺産

江戸時代に幕府の監視から隠れて硝石（火薬原料）を密造した秘密工場があった五箇山。縄で縛って切れないほど固い「五箇山豆腐」、日本最古の民謡のひとつ「こきりこ踊り」。白川郷より観光客が格段に少なく、合掌造りの集落が深雪に包まれる。

Gokayama secretly produced saltpeter for gunpowder here, hidden from the Edo shogunate. Its tofu is so firm it's tied with rope. The Kokiriko dance is one of Japan's oldest folk traditions. Far quieter than Shirakawago, submerged in deep mountain snow each winter.
