美山 かやぶきの里

6月の夜は七倉川沿いで蛍が乱舞し、1月には雪燈篭祭りで集落が幻想的に輝く。茅葺き屋根の葺き替えは今も集落全体で行う共同作業として続いており、日本の原風景が生活ごと保存されている。京都市内から車で1時間の非日常。

In June, fireflies dance along the Nanagori River at dusk; in January, snow lantern festivals make the whole hamlet glow. Re-thatching is still done as a community ritual, preserving not just the architecture but the way of life. One hour from central Kyoto.
